Brothers and Sisters around the world.

Citizens of Oaxaca and Mexico.

Those of us pronouncing these words are compañeros from the Santa Lucía del Camino municipality. We are sending a fraternal greeting to the brave peoples of Oaxaca, to the honest men and women working in solidarity, and to the good-hearted people around the world.

We would like to inform you about the events that have taken place in our municipality over a long period of time:

The acts of corruption at the hands of several municipal presidents of Santa Lucía del Camino with the help of government advisors and employees, all of whom are members of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and some of whom are associated with drug trafficking, are well known by everyone. Democracy does not exist in our municipality, only a group of tyrants who decide amongst themselves who will be the next governor, a position that they will use for the benefit of their friends and families while forgetting about neighborhoods and their pressing needs, such as water.

In this context, the struggle of various neighborhoods to obtain solutions for their necessities has had to overcome many difficulties. Neighborhood presidents have been bribed in order to maintain control over the peoples; harassment and intimidation against those who have dared to speak out; and bloodshed through several disguised assassinations of those who have denounced corruption, the theft of municipal resources, and have demanded their constitutional rights.

Faced with this unbearable situation in our municipality, in addition to the state government’s repression of Oaxaca’s social movement, we were unable to maintain our silence. We were unable to keep our eyes closed, and had to wake up and speak out against the current Municipal President Manuel Martínez Feria, who is one of the most active supporters of Oaxaca’s pseudo governor Ulises Ernesto Ruiz Ortiz (URO). Martínez Feria uses public spaces to hold events for the PRI, sends municipal police to repress teachers, encouraged PRI members to take over schools, and together with hit men attacked defenseless people who were in the various barricades around the city. It was them who assassinated Indymedia journalist Bradley Roland Will from the United States. Bradley’s death was used by the federal government as an excuse to send the Federal Preventive Police (PFP) to massacre Oaxaca’s peoples.

Manuel Martínez Feria is notable for being corrupt, an assassin, for pleasing his master URO, and for not serving the peoples. As a reward for his actions PRI members are meaning to make him a government deputy. Evidently, this would be a total mockery for all of us in Santa Lucía del Camino given that we cannot be represented in the legislature by a municipal president who has not listened or tried to see to our petitions

We have recently seen yet another attack by the municipal government through the persecution of compañeros who sympathize or are actively involved in Oaxaca’s social movement, the Popular Assembly of Oaxaca’s peoples (APPO), or those of us who have simply raised our voices to denounce arbitrary and corrupt acts.

Proof of this is the assassination of teacher Marcelo Jacinto Hernández, ex-leader of supervision zones in Ixcotel, between the streets of Calicanto and Camino Nacional; the attempted homicide of a neighborhood inhabitant on Ferrocarril Avenue (close to Hornos street); death threats against several neighbors; and the list of five people who are to be “eliminated”. Consequently:

We vigorously denounce the Low Intensity War tactics being used, as well as the repression used against Oaxaca’s peoples with the objective of causing intimidation, fear, and terror.

In the same manner, we hold the following people responsible for any physical aggression against our compañeros who are participating in the movement in Santa Lucía del Camino: Santa Lucía del Camino’s Municipal President Manuel Martínez Feria; Ulises Ruíz Ortiz; Avel Santiago Zárate (Public Security Secretary); Orlando Manuel Aguilar Cuello (Chief of Staff of the Town Council); Juan Carlos Soriano Velasco a.k.a. “El Chapulín” (Municipal Policeman); Pedro Carmona (Ex-president of the Carrillo Puerto neighborhood); Fernando Corona (Municipal Police Commander); Hilario Hernández a.k.a. “Lince” (Municipal Commander); Verónica B. Vázquez; Armando Calderón; Marcela Amelia Jiménez Guzmán, Margarita García, Josefina Hernández Ogarrio and her son Gabriel Hernández, who is policeman too.

We ask you to feel your heart and carry out activities from wherever you are to stop repression in Oaxaca, to write letters and to make phone calls to the following number denouncing the aggressions that have taken place.

Municipal Presidency of Santa Lucía del Camino, Oaxaca.
Manuel Martínez Feria: Municipal President.
(01 951) 51 7 50 40.

¡Stop the persecution and repression against the inhabitants of Santa Lucía del Camino!
¡Punishment for Bradley Roland Will’s Assassins!
¡Explanations for the aggressions against inhabitants of Santa Lucía del Camino!
¡Explanations from Municipal President Manuel Martínez Feria!

With much respect,
United Inhabitants of Santa Lucía del Camino.
Barricades of Santa Lucía del Camino.
